Buenos Dias Australia!! - A London tabloid botches the retirement of Prince Philip, guess who owns it - US Republicans move to destroy healthcare for millions - Argentina's conservative government opens the door to releasing murderous human rights abusers from prison - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

So.. that big deal out of Buckingham Palace turned out to be an announcement that Prince Philip is retiring from public life once his current list of obligations is complete - no new gigs after August.  "Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time," read the statement from the palace.  All this set off speculation about the health of the Queen and Philip because of the unusual 3:00 AM call for all royal employees to come to the palace for an urgent meeting.  And nowhere was that speculation completely mishandled like it was in Murdochland.
Prince Philip Is Not Dead

This Is FAKE NEWS, Phil Ain't Dead

Setting A Record For Not Being Dead
Rupert Murdoch's tabloid The Sun briefly and incorrectly reported that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh was dead and quickly pulled it off of its web edition - but not before other news outlets in Europe picked up the fake news and repeated it.  Unlike the parrot in that Monty Python sketch, Philip is most certainly not dead.

But lots of Americans with "pre-existing conditions" might soon will be, after the Republican-controlled lower house of Congress passed a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), known as "Obamacare".  The bill contains long-term cuts to Medicaid (US government healthcare for senior citizens), higher premiums for older Americans, and smaller subsidies to help people afford individual insurance.  It will also allow health insurance companies to charge more for people with pre-existing conditions, which non-partisan scorers determined will kick 20 million people off of their health care plans.
America Is Bad For People's Health
Insurers will also be allowed to sell half-assed policies which don't cover things like maternity care.  This bill must still go through the Senate, where it will likely be changed and require negotiations between the two houses of Congress before getting to the orange clown's desk for a signature.  This still has a long way to go.

The House vote to screw Americans health kept Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull waiting in New York City for his meeting with fascist demagogue Donald Trump, who stayed in Washington longer than he was supposed to in order to do a photo op with the House Republicans.  Malcolm spent his time meeting with national security figures and with the chief of Dow Chemical on an energy roundtable.  Mr. Turnbull is only going to be there a short time, and this demonstrates Trump's concern for Australia.

Amnesty International is blasting Brazil for its high number of police killings this year.  In just the first two months of this year Brazilian cops have killed 182 people - mostly young, black men.  These killings have doubled since the last time the United Nations set out to chart the problem, with 419 people murdered in 2012, and a staggering 920 in 2016.  "Very little has been done to reduce the number of homicides, to control the use of force by the police, or to guarantee Indigenous rights as claimed in Brazil's Constitution," said Jurema Werneck, executive director at Amnesty International Brazil.  "UN Member States must make clear to Brazil that this has to change."

Argentina's top court has cut the prison sentence of a convicted human rights abuser - and rights campaigners fear that conservative President Mauricio Macri will use the ruling to help more murderers and torturers waltz out of prison.  Macri appointed two of the judges who formed the majority to release Luis Muina, who in 2013 was condemned to 13 years in prison for kidnap and torture of Leftists and government opponents during the 1976-1983 fascist dictatorship.  Other murderers are expected to apply for early release:  "The ruling will result in a cascade of appeals. It will have a domino effect that will lead to the release of most offenders," said Rodolfo Yanzon, a lawyer representing victims of the dictatorship.  "It's a virtual amnesty."

French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron filed a lawsuit over fake allegations that he has a secret bank account in the Caribbean.  Right-wing websites have circulated false images of tax documents, but now can expect a call from prosecutors:  An aide to Mr. Macron said, "We will not hesitate to prosecute for defamation anyone who repeats this false information."  Far right wing xenophobe Marine Le Pen repeated the fake rumor during this week's very, very acrimonious debate, although Macron quickly countered that Le Pen is actually under real, tangible legal action over finance allegations.  Good news for Macron (and for France), polls indicate that he won that debate and he picked up the endorsement of former US President Barack Obama.  Bad news for Le Pen, people like to throw eggs at her.

A Los Angeles court sentenced Alanis Morissette's ex-manager to six years in prison for embezzling US$7 Million from her and other clients.
