World powers appear to be lining up behind their chosen proxies in the 2 year old Syrian civil war, signaling a possible escalation in the conflict.

French President Francoise Holland is urging the European Union to lift the arms embargo so that France could sell arms to the rebels.  Earlier, the French Foreign minister said his country and the U.K. shared identical views.  And the U.K. hinted it would veto any attempts by the E.U. to extend the embargo.

Russia is expressly opposed to arms sales or anything that would escalate the conflict.

Meanwhile, an Israeli General is claiming Iran and Hezbollah have built up a 50 thousand-member force to prop up the Bashar al-Assad regime, or extend Iran’s influence in Syria should Assad fall.

Major General Aviv Kochavi is also playing the chemical weapons card, claiming Assad is getting ready to use them against the rebels.
