The UN World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the DR Congo Ebola Outbreak to be a global health emergency.  More than 1,600 people have died, mostly in the Democratic Republic of Congo but also three in Uganda last month.  WHO has declined to declare such an emergency three times before, but the catalyst for this change was Ebola's appearance in the city of Goma with its population of around two million people.  Thousands of people pass through Goma every day on the way to and from neighboring Rwanda.

Meanwhile, Uganda is again dealing with the Ebola threat from its neighbor DR Congo.  A woman who worked in a fish market in Mpondwe on the border displayed symptoms of the killer viral infection last Thursday, before returning to DR Congo and dying from Ebola.  Now, health officials are trying to track down everyone she came in contact with.  The Ebola virus can easily by killed with a little bleach in water, but that's outside the human body.  Spread person-to-person by bodily fluids, it causes a hemorrhagic fever that decimates the body's defenses, leading to death within a few days.

Italy is hunting a fugitive bear likened to a Marvel Comics superhero because of his escape from a pen ringed with not one, not two, but three electric fences - AND a four meter wall.  This is going on in the Alpine Trentino Region in the north.  The government has given hunters permission to shoot the bear known as M49, but animal rights campaigners are spreading the hashtag #fugaperlaliberta - "escape for freedom" in Italian.
