The Queensland government has approved the billion dollar 195-turbine Lacour Energy windfarm project at Clarke Creek.  It will be the largest such facility in the state and one of the largest in Australia.

Construction at the site northwest of Rockhampton is expected to begin next year.  It's project that the construction phase will create 350 jobs, followed by 20 full-time operations positions.

The plan includes 195 turbines spread out over 50 kilometres along the Broadsound Range and covering 76,000 hectares, generating 800 megawatts of power.  That's about three percent of Queensland's current electricity needs.

QLD wants renewables to supply 50 percent of its energy by the year 2030.
