Scientists are warming that one of Britain's favorite meals, Fish and Chips, could be off the menu forever because of global warming.

Research indicates that Cod and Haddock will not do well as rising temperatures in the oceans will mean less oxygen in the water.

"Many large species will almost certainly be the first casualties of our warming, oxygen-poor ocean," said Professor John Spicer of the University of Plymouth, who led the research appearing in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B.  The report suggests our failure to cut greenhouse gasses and stop global warming will have a greater impact on marine ecosystems than previously feared.

"Over the past 50 years, the oxygen in our oceans has decreased by around 2-5 percent," Spicer added, "This is already having an effect on species' ability to function."

Previous studies have projected that the fish could shrink by up to a quarter by the year 2050.
