A poacher sustained a serious leg injury after the rhinoceros he was stalking turned the tables and and charged him.

The Namibian newspaper reports this happened last week in Etosha National Park, and quotes police official Simson Shilongo saying the Rhino "appeared out of nowhere" and charged suspect Luteni Muharuku, who had illegal entered the park with a gang of poachers.  The group sought shelter from the angry beast on a mountain, where police found them and made the arrests.  Muharuku's current condition is not clear.

Rhino poaching has increased in Namibia due to growing demand for the animal's horns in China and Southeast Asia, where some people for whatever reason believe it has magical medicinal value (scientific note:  It doesn't).  Namibia has one of Africa's biggest populations of the critically endangered black rhino, and South Africa next door is home to most of the continent's rhinos, including the more numerous white rhino species.
