The Australian government dealt a blow to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society when it refused to dispatch the Navy to deal with Japanese whaling vessels in Aussie territorial waters.  But the environmentalists are getting unexpected support from the Japanese people.

It’s not just whale meat that is losing appeal among the Japanese people, whaling itself is crashing in popularity.

A report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare says people are not happy about propping up the unprofitable whaling industry, which is only getting by because of taxpayer subsidies.

Those subsidies have cost about $320 Billion since 1987 and since 2011 have included funds that were rerouted from recovering from the Tsunami & Nuclear disasters.

Japanese pollster E-Square says consumption of whale meat has fallen to 1 percent of its peak way back in the 1960s.  Practically no one wants to eat the stuff anymore.

But while the number of people who simply don’t care far outnumber those with actual opinions, people across the spectrum are opposed to subsidizing a zombie industry.
