The personal information of thousands of Australian workers or job applicants might have been exposed in a massive data breach at PageUp, an international HR company.

PageUp's clients include Target, Telstra, NAB, Coles, Australia Post, Aldi, Reserve Bank of Australia, Medibank, Officeworks, Kmart, and others.  Client companies have released emergency statements to their employees, and PageUp has launched an investigation.

People who applied for jobs using PageUp's software could be impacted.  Australia Post says all sorts of personal information of successful job applicants to the postal service were at risk.  That means names, email addresses, home addresses, drivers license numbers, bank details, Tax File Numbers, and superannuation details.

Earlier this year, the government enacted new rules for companies on handling data breaches.  Companies who suspect they have been the target of a data breach must immediately report the incident to customers and client who may be affected.
