Three women who went missing in three separate incidents years ago have been found, rescued from the home where they had been held for as long as a decade.

Police in Cleveland, Ohio says the drama unfolded Monday when one of the women was able to call police operators and declare, “I’m Amanda Berry. I’ve been on the news for the last 10 years.”

She said she had been taken by someone and begged for police officers to arrive at the home on Cleveland’s west side before he returned.  “I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years,” she told the dispatcher. “And I’m here. I’m free now.”

She was apparently helped out of the home by a neighbor named Charles Ramsey, who told his story to reporters.

Berry disappeared at age 16 on 21 April, 2003, when she called her sister to say she was getting a ride home from her job at a Burger King (Hungry Jack’s).

Also rescued were Gina DeJesus who went missing at age 14 on her way home from school about a year later.  The third woman is Michele Knight who was 20 when she disappeared in 2000.  Also recovered from the home was a child.  All were taken to hospital for evaluation.

Police arrested the owner of the house, Ariel Castro, 52, who had lived in the house since 1992. Records show he was arrested for domestic violence in 1993, but a grand jury declined to indict him.  Castro's brothers are also reportedly under arrest.
