Bill O'Reilly is out at Fox News, the Murdoch sons have won out and the company is severing ties with the bombastic right-wing TV host.  This comes after dozens of advertisers bailed out on "The O'Reilly Factor", 48 hours after The New York Times published a story detailing how Fox paid out millions of dollars to settle a series of sex harassment lawsuits.  Since then, more allegations surfaced including this week's accusations that O'Reilly followed an African-American secretary around making rude comments and calling her "hot chocolate", which would be racist and sexist.  O'Reilly has been off the air for a few days on what was officially claimed to be a "vacation".  Don't cry for Bill-O, however, because Rupert Murdoch signed O'Reilly to a new contract a month ago, meaning that Fox will probably have to pay big money to buy out that deal.

It appears Jakarta has failed its big pluralism test:  The Christian governor of Jakarta has lost his reelection bid by an unexpectedly large margin of 15 percent, although the official count won't be in for a few weeks.  Hard-line Muslims had turned on Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, known as Ahok, because of alleged blaspheming of Islam - charges which Ahok denies.

The unofficial winner of the Jakarta governor's election is Muslim candidate Anies Basweden who will take the oath of office in October.

A bus plunged into a ravine in the northern Philippines, killing 31 people.  The driver had shouted that the brakes were not functioning and he lost control of the vehicle, according to some of the 15 people who survived the crash in in Nueva Ecija province's Carranglan town. 

Nigeria has suspended its foreign spy chief after linking him to the discovery of a flat containing US$43 Million.  President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into how the spy agency headed by Ayo Oke came into possession of the money, and how it is being spent. 

Ecuador completed a recount of 1.3 million votes from the presidential election earlier this month, and confirmed that Socialist Vice President Lenin Moreno did indeed win - in fact, the recount slightly increased his tally.  Mr. Moreno will be sworn in on 24 May.  Monitors from the Organization of American States (OAS) said "a recount of this magnitude and under these norms to be an exercise in transparency".  Despite repeated confirmation that the election is on the up and up, whinging conservative loser and ex-banker Guillermo Lasso still doesn't accept the results.  

This fits the pattern on right-wing assaults on South America's democratically elected Leftist leaders:  They couldn't stop Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, so they targeted his less popular successor Nicolas Maduro with crippling economic sabotage and deadly street protests.  They couldn't stop Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, so they impeached his successor Dilma Rousseff on charges that weren't illegal.  They couldn't stop Argentina's Nestor Kirchner, so the corporate media slimed his widow Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and her conservative successor - whose mismanagement has increased poverty by huge margins - investigates her on trumped up charges after she left office.

ANYWAY...

European Council President Donald Tusk is in his native Poland for an investigation he calls a "political witch-hunt".  The bitter and vindictive conservative ruling party (PiS) is conducting a secretive investigation into whether Mr. Tusk overstepped his authority in agreeing to co-operate with the Russian FSB in 2010 and 2013 when he was Prime Minister. The PiS government was the only one in Europe to vote against him as EC President.

British MPs overwhelmingly approved PM Theresa May's call for a UK snap election.  Party leaders already began campaigning The lopsided vote was 522 in favor, 13 against.  Ms. May says she will not take part in debates with the other party leaders.  Labour's Jeremy Corbyn is already ruling out coalitions with other progressive parties (is this an absolute loser's bet?).  The two Unionist parties of North Ireland will hold talks on a pact to protect their flagging fortunes.  Buckle up!

China is seriously concerned with North Korea's nuclear threats, and Beijing believes the US is not helping calm the situation with its idiotic tough guy rhetoric and posturing.  Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said, "China is unswerving in its commitment to realizing the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, maintaining the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula, and continue to solve matters through dialogue and negotiations."  Pyongyang is threatening the US with "thermonuclear war" if it is attacked.

The universe missed another chance to reset Planet Earth after an asteroid the size of the Rock of Gibralter flew by without destroying Donald Trump or the Kardashians or something like that.  NASA's Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex in California caught radar imagery of the asteroid.

The peanut-shaped "2014 JO25" takes five hours to complete a full rotation, is about one kilometer wide, and passed at a distance of about five times the gap between the earth and the moon.  The next asteroid of this size to come near earth won't happen until 2027, when the 800 meter "1999 AN10" will pass much, much closer - only one lunar distance.
