Donald Trump didn't even wait until all of the votes from the 2018 Midterm Election were counted before he requested the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.  The arch-conservative former Senator from Alabama got on Trump's bad side by recusing himself from overseeing the investigation led by special prosecutor Robert Mueller into Russian meddling into the 2016 presidential election.  A terse White House announcement said that the temporary head of the Justice Department will be Matthew Whitaker, a Republican party operative and former talking head on CNN who once authored an op-ed criticizing the Mueller probe.  If this move doesn't flat-out threaten the existence of the Mueller probe, it could wind up restricting it by putting on new limits on what Mueller can investigate or be cutting Mueller budget.

Earlier, Trump held a contentious news conference in the White House in which he argued with reporters, called them "the enemy of the people", acted racist, threw Republicans who lost in Tuesday's elections under the bus, and completely failed to mention that he was about to tear apart the Justice Department.

US Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 Midterm Elections.  The results put Democrats in charge of key committees with the power to investigate Donald Trump, his associates, and his family.  The biggest gains came in Pennsylvania, where a federal court forced Republicans to redraw a horribly gerrymandered district map; and in formerly-Republican suburban areas, where Trump's crude and hyper-partisan style chafed against families trying to raise their kids with decent values.  Progressive women of color were the biggest winners, heading to congress is record numbers.

Republicans increased their hold on the US Senate, as Democrats made vulnerable by their votes against Donald Trump's US Supreme Court pick Kavanaugh fell one by one, and a couple of marquee races didn't go the way Dems had hoped.  GOP voters returned to office two congressmen accused of serious financial crimes that could land them in prison, as well as a white nationalist criticized for spending more time in Europe rubbing elbows with fascists than he did in his district in Iowa.  In Nevada, voters backed the party of family values to elect a dead pimp to the state assembly.

Nearly 80 children who were kidnapped by armed assailants from a boarding school in northwestern Cameroon are being reunited with their families.  But it's still unclear who kidnapped them and what the motivation might have been.  The French-speaking government blamed English-speaking separatists, who denied it and threw the same accusation back at the government.  The students were dropped off at another school twelve miles from the place they were abducted, raising even more questions about how the kidnappers could have transported them past numerous military checkpoints.

The mayor of Warsaw has banned a planned far-right march in the Polish capital.  "Warsaw has already suffered enough due to aggressive nationalism," said Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, "Poland's 100th anniversary of independence shouldn't look like this, hence my decision to forbid it."  Last year, the march attracted 60,000 people, many of whom were openly displaying racist, nationalist, and nazi banners.  This year, Poland's president has distanced himself from the march.

Police in Peru say they have arrested 14 people in a suspected baby trafficking ring in the southern city of Arequipa, rescuing a five-month old tot in the process.  One of those arrested is the former head of Peru's national police force, Gen Raul Becerra.  The gang allegedly preyed upon women seeking illegal abortions because they couldn't afford to have kids, paid them off to go through with the pregnancies, and then sold the babies.

Pakistan has reportedly freed Asia Bibi, who was acquitted of death-penalty blasphemy charges last week.  Her lawyer says she has boarded a plane to leave the country, although the destination is not yet known.  Fundamentalist Muslim hardliners had demanded she be lynched and staged shut-down protests across the country, even though the court found there was no real evidence the Christian farm laborer bad-mouthed the prophet Muhammad.
