The US House Judiciary Committee has voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in civil contempt of Congress as Democrats and the White House raise the stakes of what is shaping up to be a "constitutional crisis".  The measure passed on a party line vote of 24 Democrats to 16 Republicans, and will then go to the floor of the House to determine if Barr will face the sanction.  Barr refused to cooperate with the House's subpoena for an unredacted version of the Mueller Report into the Trump campaign and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.  Before the vote, the White House and the Justice Department upped the ante and claimed executive privilege over all of the materials committee subpoenaed in its investigation.  At risk here is the entire American system of government, which places the Executive (Presidency), Legislative, and Judicial branches of government as equal.

Seemingly intent on sowing chaos everywhere, Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on Iran's metals industry - the country's second biggest export earner after oil.  Earlier in the day, Tehran said it was suspending some commitments to the landmark Iran Nuclear deal, under which it had given up its nuclear ambitions.  But Trump pulled the US out a year ago, and now it's game on again.  Tehran's move appears to be meant to pressure some of the other signatories to the former six-party agreement to stand up to US economic pressure.

Democratic Republic of Congo government troops clashed with Mai Mai militia rebels at an Ebola treatment center, forcing it to suspend operations.  Armed violence has been one of the biggest obstacle for international health workers trying to deal with the outbreak of the deadly and easily communicable virus.  The death toll in the current outbreak is more than 1,000 lives lost - plus twelve rebels in the battle in Butembo town.

Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi has left the country to be reunited with her daughters in Canada.  Bibi spent eight years in death row for blasphemy against Islam, which she has consistently denied.  Pakistan's Supreme Court overturned her conviction last year, setting off riots among fundamentalists and forcing the government to place her in protective custody in a secure location.
