US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Donald Trump "leaves us no choice but to act" because "our democracy is what is at stake", and thus representatives will move forward to draft articles of impeachment.  "(Trump's) actions have seriously violated the constitution,'' she added.  "He is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit.  (Trump) has engaged in abuse of power, undermining our national security and jeopardizing the integrity of our elections."  This comes a day after three legal scholars told the US House Judiciary Committee that they believed that Trump had committed actions that were impeachable offenses under the US Constitution.  More hearings on evidence against Trump are scheduled for Monday.

Authorities identify the US Navy Sailor who shot and killed two civilian workers at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii and wounded another before killing himself as Gabriel Romero, assigned to the USS Columbia nuclear submarine that is currently undergoing maintenance at the base's dry dock.  Little is know about his motive.  It's also not clear on what kind of firearm he might have used, as personal weapons are not allowed on base.  The incident has Navy officials beefing up security at the base for the annual ceremony marking the anniversary of the Imperial Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, 78 years ago on Saturday.

A nationwide strike shut down France as people rose up against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to overhaul pensions and raise the retirement age.  Pretty much everything was shut down - tourist attractions including the Eiffel Tower, planes, trains, schools, and businesses.  The movement united Leftists of all stripes, mainstream parties, and even the far-right in opposition to Macron's plans.  It invoked memories of the strikes in the 1990s which forced then-Prime Minister Alain Juppe's to abandon attempts to reform pensions.

Samoa is asking people to hang red flags in front of their homes if they are not vaccinated against the measles, but want to be.  The death toll from the Samoan measles epidemic rose to 63 lives lost - almost all of the fatalities occurring among children younger than age five.  Friday is the second day of Samoa's government shutdown, which is freeing up civil servants to assist mass vaccination efforts to get as many people inoculated as possible.

Measles killed 142,300 around the world in 2018, according to the UN World Health Organization.  And a prime cause for this in developed countries is the proliferation of anti-vaxxer misinformation spread through social media.  In poor nations, officials would love to have the means to fight the extremely easily-spread virus, but don't have the infrastructure to do so.  The goal of achieving "herd immunity" can only happen when 95 percent of the population coverage gets the measles vaccine - but globally, only 86 percent of children get the first dose and fewer than 70% the second dose of the MMR vaccine.
