Hello Australia!! - The trade war started by Trump is underway - Thailand suffers dual tragedies - Three words that actually mean something in France, maybe other countries should try it - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

Accusing the US of starting the "largest trade war in economic history", China has put into force retaliatory tariffs on US imports totaling US$34 Billion - a dollar for dollar match of the orange clown Donald Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods.  Russia jumped into the fray, placing extra duties on a range of US products that can be replaced by locally made equivalents - mostly in the construction and heavy machinery sector - in revenge for Trump's tariff hikes on Aluminum and Steel.  The European Union and Japan cushioned themselves by striking a Free Trade Deal - Brussels saying the agreement was sending "a very powerful signal against protectionism", an indirect reference to the trouble that the moron Trump is causing.

These are sad days in Thailand, with 33 people confirmed dead and more than 23 missing after the capsizing of a passenger ferry off Phuket.  Most of the 105 passengers on board the Phoenix ferry were Chinese tourists.  In Thailand's north, those kids are still trapped in the cave with their football coach, and one rescuer is dead.  Ex-Navy Seal Saman Gunan was delivering oxygen in the cave where the kids are trapped, but didn't have enough to get out and died in one of the flooded passages blocking the way out.  The boys are reportedly strong enough to walk after receiving food and fresh water, but not strong enough to use scuba gear to get out.

French police arrested one of their own officers for shooting a man in a traffic stop, the catalyst for three nights of rioting in Nantes, a city in western France.  The cop at first claimed that he shot 22-year old Aboubakar Fofana in self-defense, but later admitted he lied and now claims it was an accidental shooting.

A French court has ruled that the "principle of fraternity" most certainly is the country's way of life - as in "Liberte, egalite, fraternite".   Prosecutors went after olive farmer Cedric Herrou for providing food, shelter, and other assistance to dozens of undocumented migrants in the Roya Valley near the border with Italy.  Herrou appealed his 3,000 Euro fine, and the Constitutional Court agreed with him.  "The principle of fraternity confers the freedom to help others, for humanitarian purposes, regardless of the legality of their presence on national territory," the court wrote in its decision.

A Pakistani court found ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family guilty of corruption and sentenced the former PM to ten years in prison.  Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, was given a seven-year jail term.  It's the highest profile conviction in the Panama Papers investigation, which detailed the world of international money sheltering operations that teh wealthiest people use to avoid paying their taxes.

Three hosts of internet adventure travel videos have died after falling off of a waterfall in Canada.  Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh, and Megan Scraper were part of High On Life, which consists of a lot of jumping off of things into lakes and pools and the like.  This time they were swimming at the top of Shannon Falls in British Columbia when they "slipped and fell into a pool 30 meters below".  Lyakh and Gamble were banned from US National Parks for five years after trespassing on Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring, a foolhardy stunt that could have gotten them cooked had they taken a wrong step.

Mozambique has sacked the board of the state-owned Lam Airlines after leaving the Prime Minister and his party stranded at the airport because the planes were out of fuel.  Lam is having a "cash crisis" according to local media, and airports have been in chaos for the past few days (yes I know, Sydney Airport passengers, I know.. There there).  PM Carlos Agostinho do Rosario had to get the Air Force to fly him from the capital to the north to conduct official business.
