Hello Australia!! - Anthony Bourdain's death sends shockwaves - The G7 rejects Trump's big idea - An alligator apparently kills a woman just out walking her dog - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

CNN is confirming that Anthony Bourdain committed suicide in a hotel in France at age 61.  His unusual career took him from kitchen worker to celebrity chef to becoming one of the best and best-known travel journalists on TV (a job description he would often deny).  His latest TV show "Parts Unknown" on CNN allowed him to bridge humanity's schisms and divides over plates of food and empathetic, non-judgmental discussion of the local political and sociological conditions at the moment.  He brought the viewer new views of locations both exotic and familiar, meeting with local chefs, ex-pat Westerners, dominatrices, artists, average people, and ex-US presidents.

Bourdain's partner, the actor Asia Argento, said he was her "rock" and "protector", and before asking for privacy for herself and his family she wrote:  "Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did.  His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds."  Former US President Barack Obama said, "He taught us about food - but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together," and recalled the 2016 episode in which he sat down on plastic stools with Bourdain for beer and noodles at a tiny restaurant in Hanoi.  CNN boss Jeff Zucker said, "Tony will be greatly missed not only for his work but also for the passion with which he did it," particularly praising his exceptional talent as a writer.

Moving along..

Okay, so that was weird.  Leaders of the world's seven biggest economies stood still for less than :30 seconds for the photo op at the G7 summit in Canada; as they walked away from the group photo, Emmanuel Macron, Shinzo Abe, Theresa May, and Donald Tusk all checked their watches, appearing to joke with each other about the amount of time set aside for the usual "class photo".  German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to linger so she could get a few words in with the orange clown Donald Trump.

Earlier, Trump said that Russia should be allowed back into the exclusive club, making it the G8 again.  Russia was booted out of the G8 in 2014 because of its invasion and annexation of the Ukrainian territory Crimea.  The other leaders rejected the idea, except for Italy's new Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte of the populist Five Star Movement who said it would be "in the interests of everyone".  Moscow, however, didn't seem too interested in Trump's idea.  "Russia is focused on other formats, apart from the G7," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to state-run media.

And now..

The brother of the crack-smoking mayor of Toronto, Canada has just been elected Premier of Ontario, the country's most-populous and economically-active province.  Doug Ford was largely seen as the brains behind his buffoonish brother Rob Ford's political rise.  Although Doug (as far as we know) doesn't smoke crack or openly discuss oral sex with his wife in nauseatingly graphic terms, he is cut from the same right-wing populist cloth:  A reasonably wealthy businessman with a litany of questionable partners; a basher of "elitists" in the vein of Trump, Erdogan, and Orban; a homophobe and sexist.  Oh, and he's upset that there are more libraries than doughnut shops in his home district.

Israeli snipers shot and killed four more Palestinian protesters in Gaza as they approached the border, in a resumption of the protests of Palestinians trying to get access to their ancestral lands that are not part of Israel.  Out of more than 10,000 protesters, Israeli bullets or tear gas injured another 618 people.  Israeli forces have killed at least 122 Palestinians in protests along the border since a campaign was launched on 30 March.

Austria is closing seven mosques and has plans to deport their imams over political and funding links to Turkey.  Some of the Mosques were linked to images that got out earlier this year showing children in Turkish military uniforms reenacting the Battle of Gallipoli, so, yeah that's a sore spot.  While some are accusing Austria's right-wing government of Islamophobia, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said:  "Parallel societies, political Islam and radicalisation tendencies have no place in our country."

A US Special Forces soldier was killed in a military operation assisting Somalian government forces crack down on the terrorist group al-Shabaab.

A witness told police an alligator dragged a woman into a lake in Florida.  47-year old Shizuka Matsuki was last seen walking her dog in Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park near Plantation.  Seachers found the injured dog on its leash nearby; a necropsy on a three and a half meter alligator reportedly found a human arm.
