Top US Democrats are condemning Donald Trump and other Republicans' efforts to smear the Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar as bigoted and dangerous, and they're urging other Democrats to do the same.  Representative Omar is one of the two first Muslim females in the US Congress, but has been singled out by Trump, Republicans, and their right-wing media allies for relentless negative publicity, with Trump using graphic footage of the 9/11 terror attacks in an unhinged rant against a US citizen.  "The memory of 9/11 is sacred ground, and any discussion of it must be done with reverence," said US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  Senator Bernie Sanders called attacks on Omar "disgusting and dangerous" and said Omar would not "back down to Trump's racism and hate, and neither will we".  New York firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, "(Omar's) life is in danger," and, "For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress."  Just last week, a Trump supporter was charged with threatening to kill Omar.

Kim Jong-un says he would consider attending a third summit aimed at ending his nuclear program, but only if Donald Trump brought "the right attitude".  Trump recently floated the idea of a third summit, although the first two had accomplished absolutely nothing.  North Korean state media reported that Kim urged Trump to pursue a deal that was "mutually acceptable", although he had "strong doubt" the Trump was sincere.

Sudan's third leader in a week is vowing to "uproot the regime" two days after the military coup that toppled Omar al-Bashir from his three-decade reign.  But the coup leader resigned when al Bashir's opponents failed to give up occupying the streets.  Taking charge, General Abdel Fattah Abdel-Rahman Burhan would not cave in to demands to immediate elections and said plans to delay elections for two years stands.  He offered the end of a night curfew and the release of political prisoners as concessions to the protesters.

Venezuela's former military intelligence chief Hugo Carvajal has been jailed in Spain on a US warrant alleging drug trafficking.  Carvajal originally worked for the Democratically-elected leaders, the great Hugo Chavez and his successor President Nicolas Maduro, but later fell out and supported the self-appointed "presidency" of opposition figure Juan Guaido.  Spain's High Court is reviewing the US extradition request.

Facebook spent US$22.6 Million on the personal security of chief Mark Zuckerberg.  A new regulatory filing shows that he drew a ceremonial salary of a dollar in 2018, while the rest of his compensation was security.  That's more than twice than the year before, and a lot more than it takes to pay for a few bodyguards to run along with Zuck on his morning jog.  The total tab for his personal security included $2.6 Million for personal use of private jets.
