Prime Minister Scott Morrison says three Australians are believed to be among the five confirmed deaths from the eruption of New Zealand's Whakaari/White Island Volcano yesterday afternoon.  There are still eight people missing, and they appear to to all be Australian.  And 13 Aussies are among the 31 people being treated in area hospitals.  The rest are tourists from the US, UK, China, Malaysia, and New Zealand.  The volcano blew at 2:11 pm yesterday afternoon, sending a plume of ash more than three and a half kilometers in the air.

The US Justice Department Inspector says the FBI was completely justified in launching its investigation into Russian influence over the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump.  While establishing there was cause to launch the investigation the report did, however, acknowledge procedural errors - but overall the investigation was not politically-motivated.  This completely decimates the BS conspiracy theory peddled by Trump since the election, and supported by his most recent Attorney General William Barr.  But Barr rejected the results of his own IG's report and said he's running an independent investigation.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) slapped a four-year ban on Russia for multiple, egregious violations in athletic competitions.  That means Russian teams, the flag, and their national anthem will not be part of the Tokyo Olympics next year, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the 2022 soccer World Cup in Qatar.  "Finally, Russia's many doping and obstruction sins will now get some of the punishment they richly deserve," said Russian whistle-blower Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, "For far too long, Russia has weaponized doping fraud and state-sponsored criminal activity as a tool of foreign policy."  WADA's executive committee ruled Moscow Individual Russian athletes who prove to be clean can compete, but not under their national flag.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under fire for ignoring a photo of a young boy with an oxygen mask forced to sleep on a pile of coats at an NHS hospital in Leeds while he waited for a proper bed so he could be treated for suspected pneumonia.  Instead, Johnson grabbed the reporter's mobile phone displaying the photo, and put it in his pocket.  ITV correspondent Joe Pike didn't back down and continued to press Johnson about the state of the National Health Service:  "You refuse to look at the photo, you've taken my phone and put it in your pocket, Prime Minister.  His mother says the NHS is in crisis. What's your response to that?"  His glib joke crashing like a lead balloon, Johnson said, " I apologize obviously to the family and all those who have terrible experiences in the NHS," and promised to look into it.  Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted of Johnson:  "He doesn't care."  The UK General Election is this Tuesday.

Argentina's new government takes office on Tuesday.  President-elect Alberto Fernandez introduced his economic team last week, suggesting he will steer national policies to the center-Left, and not quite as far as his Leftist vice president, the former president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.  This means pubic investment will be balanced with an eye towards Argentina's international creditors, the International Monetary Fund, and more than approximately US$100 Billion in sovereign debt.
