China’s fifth manned space mission ended successfully.  The capsule from the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft carried three Chinese astronauts safely to earth after a 15-day mission to China's space laboratory, the Tiangong-1, a mission that included astronaut Wang Yaping gave a video lecture to students back on Earth. State TV showed the capsule touching down in grassland in the Inner Mongolia region.

Some politicians and lawyers are questioning the constitutionality of Brazil President Dilma Rousseff’s proposal to hold a direct voter referendum on political reforms.  It’s an attempt to bypass an unpopular congress and appeal directly to the people to end more than a week of demonstrations that have rocked the nation.  Many in congress say the power to reform belongs to the political caste.  But the critics have critics as well, and they say that congress has dithered too long on reform without taking any action.

The United States Supreme Court struck down a key part of a landmark civil rights-era electoral law designed to protect minority voters.  By a margin of 5-4, the justices quashed section 4 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said in dissent that the court "errs egregiously by overriding Congress' decision", and that there could be no doubt that race-based voter discrimination still existed.

In a speech that mocked climate change deniers, US President Barack Obama introduced new measures aimed at curbing climate change, including limits on emissions from power plants.  He also unveiled plans for an expansion of renewable energy projects, improved flood resilience and calls for an international climate deal.
