A Nike ad featuring Oscar Pistorius and the tagline “I am bullet in the chamber” has been removed from his website.  The Paralympics athlete is under arrest and due to be formally charged with the shooting with of his girlfriend and noted fashion model Reeva Steenkamp.

The “bullet” ad comes from a 2011 advertising campaign from the athletic wear giant, which has endorsed Pistorius since 2008 and is one of his five major corporate sponsors.  The ad shows Pistorius on his famous carbon fiber blade prosthetic feet in a starting position, in a montage of photos showing him taking off on a speedy run.

Nike earlier refused to comment on the status or future of its relationship with Pistorius.  The company’s South African website was off-line as of Thursday afternoon.

Police say Reeva Steenkamp was shot four times in the head and hand in Pistorius’ home in a highly secure gated community on the morning of Valentine’s Day.  Pistorius is due in court for formal charges on Friday morning.
