Ecuador’s Foreign Minister is traveling to London this month, where officials are hoping to get a resolution to the situation around Julian Assange.

Assange has been holed up inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London for almost a year.  The UK would like to extradite him to Sweden for questioning over sexual allegations made by two women, allegations Assange and his supporters deny.  But Assange fears he’ll really be secreted off to the United States for questioning over publication by WikiLeaks of confidential information.

Ecuador's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino will be in the UK for the eve of the first anniversary of Assange's dramatic arrival at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Patino’s office says he has “offered to meet with Foreign Secretary William Hague to discuss the case of Julian Assange.”

A UK Foreign Office spokesman said it was considering the request.

Of course, the UK could settle the thing right now by accepting that Ecuador granted asylum to Assange and allowing him to travel from the embassy where he’s holed up to the airport where he will fly away and be out of London’s hair.
