Egypt sent several rescue groups out to the Mediterranean Sea after an EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo passenger jet disappeared from radar.

EgyptAir Flight MS804 was flying at 37,000 feet, or 11,300 meters when it went missing at 02:45 Cairo time/00:45 GMT.  The plane had come all the way from Paris and was reportedly 16 kilometers into Egyptian airspace when air traffic controllers in Greece noticed that the flight no longer appeared don their radar.

EgyptAir says there were 56 passengers, seven crew members, and three security personnel aboard the Airbus A320.  Three of the passengers were children.  The airline is now taking care of family members and others who were who waiting for the flight at a site near the airport, staffed with "doctors, translators and all the necessary services".

This appears to be the latest in a string of mishaps related to aviation in and out of Egypt.  Two months ago, a hijacker forced an EgyptAir passenger plane to divert to Cyprus so he could see his ex-wife.  The attacker later surrendered and all hostages were released.  In October, a bomb brought down a Russian passenger plane flying from the Sharm el-Sheikh resort, which crashed over the Sinai peninsula.  All 224 people on board were killed.  Islamic State claimed responsibility.
