The death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli custody over the weekend is bringing criticism from Egypt, showing the end of the old order in Middle East geopolitics.

Hundreds of Palestinians flooded the streets for the funeral for 30-year old Arafat Jaradat.  He was arrested last week for hurling rocks at cars, injuring an Israeli citizen.  The Palestinians say Jaradat was tortured to death in the Israeli jail at Megiddo.  Israeli authorities say the autopsy was inconclusive and there will be a further investigation, but Palestinian officials point out the Israeli autopsy found fractured ribs and numerous bruises.

This has led Egypt’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr to condemn Israel’s policies for Palestinian prisoners.  He’s warning Israel that continuing the same policies will make everything explosively worse.

Under the former regime of Hosni Mubarek, Egypt more or less stayed out of Israel’s struggles with the Palestinians.  But President Mohamed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood government has been growing more critical.
