Elon Musk, please stop tweeting and get back to making alternative energy kit.  Because the financial returns off your great, big lithium ion battery in South Australia are already exceeding expectations.

The French renewable energy company Neoen, which owns the world's largest battery, says it's on a path to make back a third of its construction costs in its first year of operation.  It cost AU$90.6 Million and generated AU$13.1 Million in revenue from network services in its first six months of operation to 30 June 2018.  Projecting forward, the battery could be on track to make back a third of its construction costs in its first year of operation.

Tesla made the The 100MW/129MWh battery and Neoen paired it with the Hornsdale windfarm, about 230 kilometers north of Adelaide.

With that kind of success, Neoen is working up several more storage projects.  These include a 20MW battery attached to the proposed 194MW windfarm at the Bulgana green power hub in Victoria, 90 percent of which is contracted to the Victorian government.  It is also proposing a 50MW storage facility in Kaban, in Queensland.
