Usually when American Fraternities make the news it’s because of sordid and sexist behavior.  But in a remarkably progressive move a Massachusetts frat is helping a member complete his journey from female to male.

20-year old Donnie Collins’ insurance company wouldn’t pay the $8,100 to complete surgery to remove breast tissue to flatten his chest.  So Emerson College’s Phi Alpha Tau frat used an Internet fundraising site to help him raise the cash.  It was so successful, they raised twice as much as needed, and will donate the rest to the Jim Collins Foundation, an organization that helps transgender people pay for surgery.

"I'm overwhelmed and surprised. I can't thank everyone enough," Donnie told a local TV station.

Emerson College has a long history of progressivism.  So much so, that the official in charge of supervising fraternizes didn’t see this as out of the ordinary.
