China's Communist Party Politburo announced the creation of something called "Xi Jinping Thought", signalling that President Xi has assumed the level of authority held only by past leaders Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

"All members of the Party should study hard Xi's 'new era' thought," said Politburo member Liu Yunshan, telling officials at the 19th party congress in Beijing in no uncertain terms that it's time to get on the program.

Xi this week delivered a major address on what he called "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era", which was light on details, but exhorted ideas of national pride; asserting China's political and economic power beyond its borders; and offering the Chinese way as a viable alternative to Western capitalism and liberal democracy.  Xi described China's one-party system as "a new option for other countries and nations who want to speed up their development while preserving their independence," presumably from the US.

"In a sense, what Xi is setting up here is not only a clash of civilization and values, but one of political and economic systems," said Orville Schell of the Asia Society's Center on US-China Relations.  Xi Jinping Thought is expected to be formally added to the party's charter next week.

"It is a huge deal," said Orville Schell, "because it makes Xi Jinping look like a thought leader comparable to Chairman Mao" and Deng Xiaoping.  China does not associate Xi's predecessors Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin with their own distinct schools of political thought. source: https://onlinecasinoaussie.com/
