Donald Trump has attacked UK Prime Minister Theresa May over her criticism of Trump's earlier retweeting of racist anti-Muslim propaganda from a British nationalist group.

"Theresa @theresamay, don't focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom," the orange clown tweeted.  "We are doing just fine!"

But the "@theresamay" Twitter handle he used doesn't belong to the British Prime Minister.  The clown deleted the first tweet, and re-sent it with the proper Twitter handle for the British leader, "@Theresa_May".

The feud is an unexpected twist in what the two countries often refer to as "the special relationship".  The US and UK are normally the closest of allies, especially when it came to leaders like Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton and Tony Blair.

Trump's day began with him retweeting incendiary, racist, and inaccurate videos posted by the deputy leader of a British far-right group.  That brought a rebuke from a spokesman for PM May who said that "wrong for the president to have done this".

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said, "UK has a proud history as an open, tolerant society & hate speech has no place here."  UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Trump's retweet was "abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society".

Ms. May hasn't reacted to Trump's insult, but a member of his own government has stepped up to support the British PM.  Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah said, "Theresa May is one of the great world leaders, I have incredible love and respect for her and for the way she leads the United Kingdom, especially in the face of turbulence."
