Donald Trump longest-serving White House aide Hope Hicks abruptly quit after he berated her for telling a congressional committee that she sometimes told white lies to protect him.

CNN reported that Hicks' resignation was "sudden" and followed Trump telling her she was "so stupid" for her testimony.  She held a small meeting with a group of White House employees, and told them she felt she had accomplished all she could in the White House.

Even in a chaotic and amateurish administration known for massive turnover, the departure of Hicks seems significant.  Many observers likened her relationship with Trump as almost a daughter, and some believed she came in second only to trump's actual family.  Known as the "Trump Whisperer", she played the role of emotional crutch for the volatile and often irrational clown in the Oval Office.  There are concerns over Trump's future behavior without Hope Hicks to lean on.
