US Republican Party presidential candidate Donald Trump delivered his acceptance speech at the GOP's National Convention, painting a dark and morose Gotham City-like view of the United States of America where criminals, foreign gangs, and corrupt politicians are running uncontrolled, and only he can stop them.  Of course, the address was jam packed with lies.

"Believe me," he said again and again, "I alone can fix it."

The fascist demagogue and serial liar said that in the country’s 50 largest cities, homicides increased by 17 percent from last year.  But the truth is that the national homicide rate hit a four decade low last year, and the number of people murdered in the 50 largest cities has declined by half since 1991.  Trump claimed that the current administration hasn't done enough to fight crime, but the truth is that President Barack Obama has actually achieved some big increases in spending for state and local law enforcement, including billions in grants provided through the 2009 stimulus.

He claimed that the Obama administration was releasing undocumented migrants from federal custody, when in fact it was a federal judge ruled last year that the government couldn't hold parents and children in jail for more than 20 days.

Seizing on white, lower middle class unease with the Black Lives Matter movement against police killings of unarmed civilians, the orange clown said, "The number of police officers killed in the line of duty has risen by almost 50 percent compared to this point last year."  But even with the recent shootings of police in Baton Rouge and Dallas this month, the number of officers dying in the line of duty is only slightly higher than last year.  And overall, police are statistically safer on America's streets now than at any time in recent decades. For example, the 109 law enforcement fatalities in 2013 were the lowest since 1956.

On Foreign Policy, Trump's lack honesty was no less egregious.  He said Iran was on the path to obtaining a nuclear weapon, when in fact Tehran agreed to give up much of its nuclear program - and what's left is subject to strict international monitoring.  He falsely claimed that his opponent Democratic Presidential Candidate and former secretary of State Hillary Clinton wants to bring thousands of extra Syrian refugees to the US, and that they would not be vetted before entry.  But the US has an extremely detailed system of background checks for refugees - processing of a refugee can take 18 months to two years, and usually longer for those coming from Syria.  Refugees are also subject to in-person interviews and fingerprint and other biometric screening.

His most irresponsible allegations was leveled at Hillary Clinton and FBI Director James Comey, suggesting a non-existent conspiracy to cover-up non-existent "crimes" regarding Clinton's use of a personal server to store emails while she was Secretary of State.  But Comey was harshly critical of Clinton's actions, even if he acknowledged that nothing that happened rose to the level to be recommended for prosecution.  Trump suggested he took a dive on the case, which turned out to be just the latest in a 25 year string of wasteful investigations into delusional conspiracy theories.
