A knife-wielding man has attacked people in a home for the disabled outside of Tokyo, killing at least 19 people and injuring dozens more.

This happened in Sagamihara, southwest of the Japanese megalopolis in Kanagawa Prefecture. The man is reportedly in his 20s.  He stabbed people in the dead of night, 2:30 AM local time in the Tsukui Yamayuri-en, a facility for the disabled in Sagamihara.  He then turned himself in at the Tsukui Police Station at around 3:00 AM and confessed to the attack.

He is reportedly being held on initial suspicion of attempted murder.  The attack appears to be one of Japan's worst single-perpetrator mass murders in the postwar era.
