Chaos on the streets of Athens, as the fascist Golden Dawn’s “Greeks Only” food hand-out for Orthodox Easter was broken up by police.

Cops moved in and extricated the fascists from Syntagma Square, where they attempted to hand out traditional food like red-colored eggs and potatoes, but only to people with Greek Identity cards.

Athens Mayor George Kaminis had banned the far-right party from the square in front of parliament, calling it a “soup kitchen of hatred” because of the illegal restriction on who could take part.

At one point, Golden Dawn MP Giorgos Germenis allegedly tried to punch Kaminis, but missed and instead struck a 12-year old girl in the face before being led away by security guards.

“Today the logic of violence, of thuggery, of 'having my way' was beaten,” said Mayor Kaminis.

The Golden Dawn has been an international embarrassment for Greece, tapping into popular resentment over austerity and economic woes with the scapegoating politics of old, to win 18 of Greece’s 300 Parliament seats.
