US E-commerce titan Amazon reportedly has been recruiting workers in Queensland to join a new, and as-yet-unannounced operation.  It's leading to speculation that the company is looking to take a big step into the grocery business.

As of this writing (24 January 2017), there are twelve roles listed on Amazon's website.  That is way down from last week, when Business Insider reported 100 job vacancies listed for Australia.

The jobs are related to the company's AmazonFresh grocery delivery business.  Right now, it's only available to Amazon Prime subscribers in the US and UK.  Amazon Prime is available as a video service in Australia; but if the company does indeed expand into fashion and groceries it could be a major remaking of retail down under. Grocery stores are already feeling pressure from low cost competitor Aldi, while international players such as Uniqlo, H&M, and Zara have cut into traditional retail clothing stores.
