A zoo worker was flown to hospital in Canberra after being gored through the arm by a white rhinoceros.

This happened at about 1:00 PM at the Mogo Zoo south of Batemans Bay on the NSW coast.  The zoo has among its collection of exotic and endangered animals two maturing male Southern White Rhinos.  The incident happened in an area that is not open to the public.

"Whilst all safety measures are taken to minimise risk for both animals and keepers occasionally accidents can occur when dealing with large mega fauna," said Mogo Zoo owner Sally Paddy.

While the zoo said both the keeper and the rhino "are OK", it is understood that the 47-year old woman was on the receiving end of an attack, and that her left arm was fractured.
