American military officials accuse Pakistan of using the C.I.A.’s drone attacks to disguise Pakistan’s own attacks on tribal areas.  Pakistan is denying these allegations.

At issue is two attacks that occurred on 6 February and 8 February in the tribal villages in North and South Waziristan, and reportedly killed a couple of al Qaida leaders.

The problem is, according to anonymous American officials, the U.S. hadn’t carried out a drone strike since January.  They suspect Pakistan did both with conventional air strikes using its U.S.- or Chinese-made warplanes.  Pakistan does not have drones.

Getting details from the scene is difficult, because Pakistan bars reporters from venturing into the remote and hostile areas.  That usually suits the C.I.A. and Pakistanis just fine, neither wants a ton of publicity about what’s actually happening.  And in the past, the Pakistani Military took responsibility for some American strikes to help keep the drone program clandestine.
