Great news if it works:  Danish Scientists are raising hopes with their prediction that a cure for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is only “months” away.

Fifteen patients are taking part in the trials at Denmark’s Aarhus University Hospital.  Researchers are testing a new technique that involves flushing the virus from so-called “reservoirs” in human DNA.  The virus is then destroyed naturally by the body's immune system.

If it is successful, it will show that "finding a mass-distributable and affordable cure to HIV is possible".

The Danish Government is funding clinical trials on the human subjects.

Senior researcher Dr. Ole Sogaard says, “The challenge will be getting the patients’ immune system to recognize the virus and destroy it. This depends on the strength and sensitivity of individual immune systems, as well as how large a proportion of the hidden HIV is unmasked.”
