"The climber breathed his last at an altitude of 7,500 meters on Tibetan side when he was descending to lower camps after suffering from altitude sicknesses at around 8,000 meters on the mountain," according to a statement from the Tibet Mountaineering Association quoted in the Himalayan Times.

Mr. Marchetti's social media page paints a picture of an experienced and active climber and world traveler.

On Sunday, 50-year old Slovakian climber Vladimir Strba died on the mountain, according to Nepaliese Tourism Ministry official Gyanendra Shrestha.  The body was brought down to the South Col camp.

Earlier, it was reported that American Roland Yearwood, a 50-year old doctor from Alabama who returned to Everest after surviving the earthquake-triggered avalanche in 2015, died not far from the summit.  The body of Indian mountaineer Ravi Kumar has not been found after he fell to altitude sickness after summiting on Sunday.
