If you don't live your life a quarter mile at a time but got fined because of one of Western Australia's new mobile speed cameras, you'll probably be interested to know WA Police are now reviewing thousands of infringements.

It's because a woman was incorrectly charged with hooning and had her car impounded because of a programming error with the speed cameras.  It incorrectly registered her speed, but her case slipped through the manual screening process that was supposed to verify the speed camera data.  The woman challenged the fine, and police dropped the charge and returned the car.

WA State Traffic Commander Scott Higgins said they're now reviewing 53,000 infringements identified by the faulty cameras.

"We have checked all infringements resulting in vehicle seizures or court proceedings and we are satisfied these have been correctly issued," Commander Higgins said.  "All other infringements issued by the new cameras are now being manually validated to ensure no one else has been affected."

WA police are working with the manufacturer of the camera to fix the fault.
