A Brisbane tradie has got a tough road ahead of him after a terrible accident at a construction site, but his friends around the world are letting their "legendary" friend know he's not alone.

37-year old David "Dodge" Conway is originally from Rathcoole, Dublin and has lived in Brisbane for years with his wife Viv and their daughter Keisha.

"Dave is a carpenter by trade, but he's known to be a jack of all trades.  He can fix absolutely anything, " said family friend Tadhg Ennis, a Dubliner in New York City.  "Australia is his home, his whole life is out there."

He sustained shocking, life-changing injuries when he fell 20-meters from scaffolding on the seventh storey of a construction site in Brisbane in July.  Dodge's brother says he's still in intensive care at Gold Coast University Hospital.

"His legs shot up through his body and ruptured his heart and punctured his lungs," said Stephen Conway.  "He had to be pumped up with 50 liters of blood and had 12-hour operations over two or three days."

And ultimately, he will need to learn to walk again, on prosthetics.  "He had two legs amputated under the knee," Stephen told the Irish independent.

Dodge's friends and family are amazed at his strength to survive such a horror accident; and so Tadhg Ennis created an inspiring video with well-wishes from David's old pals from Ireland and around the world.  They're calling themselves "Dodger's Army", and they're calling him a "legend" for surviving the horrific injuries.  The video includes scenes of friends lifting the Sam Maguire football cup on Dublin's Millennium Bridge in Dublin in his honor, tribute tattoos, and heartwarming stories of growing up.

Stephen is welcoming the support for his brother:  "He could be in hospital for another year, it's hard to tell," he said,  "For us, it's a miracle that he's still here.  We're looking at the best possible situation of him living a happy and healthy life."

Dodge's friends and family have set up a fundraiser page to help fund his medical treatment and recovery.
