After publicly admitting that the east is out of control, Ukraine’s acting President Olexander Turchynov has reinstated military conscription to deal with the deteriorating situation in his country.  It came as pro-Russia militants seized the regional prosecutor's office in the eastern city of Donetsk.

A crowd stormed the building after pummeling riot police with bricks and bits of rubble ripped from stone walls in a nearby park.  The state prosecutor based out of that office has been investigating corruption charges against former president Viktor Yanukovych.  As soon as the mob gained control of the building, looters grabbed items ranging from legal files to hard drives.

The police who bore the brunt of the crowd’s abuse are described as demoralized, corrupt, and poorly paid.  Some are suspected of collaborating with the pro-Moscow separatists.  Earlier in the week, they stood by as pro-Russians attacks a peaceful demonstration by pro-Kiev demonstrators.

This week, President Turchynov admitted the police were not up to quell the growing unrest, and the government will now concentrate on stopping it from spreading.  He issued a statement reading that conscription was being introduced “given the deteriorating situation in the east and the south.. the rising force of armed pro-Russian units and the taking of public administration buildings.. which threaten territorial integrity”.
