Good Morning Australia!! - A gruesome and bloody attack on Journalists in America - Italy's "all or nothing" approach threatens European cohesion - A big swing to the left could come to Mexico this weekend - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

A gunman killed five people in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland, only a short distance away from the US capital Washington, DC.  The shooter reportedly used a shotgun to shatter the glass door and gain entry to the newsroom.  Police say they got there within 60 seconds of the first shots fired, and that they interrupted what might have been an even larger massacre.  They then transported the suspect, described over police band radio as a white male with a pony tail, directly to the police station for interrogation, suggesting that he was not harmed or did not need medical treatment.  The suspect reportedly is not carrying identification and is not cooperating with police.

Witnesses said the newsroom looked like a "war zone" and that there was "blood everywhere".  Veteran police beat reporter Phil Davis was in the newsroom and began tweeting details once he was safe and the location was secured.  "A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead," he began, followed by: "Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees.  Can't say much more and don't want to declare anyone dead, but it's bad," and then, "There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload."

The motive for the bloodshed has not been made public.  But there are disturbing circumstances preceding this:  For instance, two solid years of the orange clown Donald Trump bashing the US news media as "fake news" and continually trying to warp reality by claiming the undeniable truths reported about him were lies.  Last week, he upped his rhetoric by calling news coverage of his failed North Korean summit as "almost treasonous", referring to reporters as "enemies of the people", and this week he singled out an NBC news reporter for harassment at a rally.

The disgraced alt-right provocateur Milo Yanniapoulos this week called for deadly vigilante violence against journalists.  "I can't wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down on sight," Yanniapoulos texted a reporter for the New York Observer this week, the newspaper owned by the orange clown Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.  Yiannopoulos' career has been in precipitous decline over the past year, following the ultra-conservative's vigorous defense of pedophiles and pedophilia.

One of the deadliest days for journalists in all of American history is also the 195th mass shooting of the year.  And the year isn't even half over yet.

Moving along..

At least 15 people were killed, probably a lot more, in a fire that swept a marketplace in Nairobi, Kenya.  The Gikomba market  is one of the largest open-air marketplaces in the Kenyan capital and the fire was easily able to spread from stalls to apartments.

The European Union Summit on immigration could break up without a resolution, because Italy is threatening to use its veto power if the final statement doesn't address all of its concerns.  The Dublin principle states that asylum seekers should stay in the country where they enter the EU, but Italy and Greece are arguing that it is ridiculously unfair because immigrants from the Mediterranean arrive only in the south and the north doesn't share the burden.

North Korea has been seen on satellite imagery beefing up its nuclear program, and now comes word that it executed a military officer who actually believed Kim Jong-un was giving up his nukes.  South Korea based NK News identifies the officer as 56-year old Lieutenant General Hyon Ju-song, who reportedly told colleagues they no longer needed to "suffer and tighten our belts to make rockets and nuclear weapons".  The orange clown Donald Trump has also claimed his failed with Kim Jong-un produced results, but the satellite photos say, "nope".

Israel has convicted a teen of making hundreds of threats to bomb or attack Jewish schools and community centers throughout the world.  Michael Ron David Kadar was also found guilty of extortion, money laundering and assaulting a police officer.  His parents claimed he had autism and other mental problems, but the judge noted he changed his story to suit his needs in court.  "As a result of these threats, planes were forced to land in different airports, schools were evacuated and emergency forces were alerted," Israeli state prosecutor Yoni Hadad said, "He essentially created panic, terrorized many people and disrupted their lives."

A new poll says former Mexico City mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Abrader (AMLO) is on track to win the Presidential Election by a landslide on Sunday.  AMLO is on the Left, but hardly a "Chavista" or red flag waving socialist.  Still, his election - on his third attempt at the office - signals widespread disgust and mistrust for the drug gang violence and corrupt government (respectively) that the Mexican people suffer.

Femke Halsema of the Left-wing green party Groenlinks said she was "happy, proud and humbled" to be nominated for Mayor by the Amsterdam City Council.  Although the Netherlands has been a forward-looking,progressive country on many fronts, Ms. Halsema would be the first female mayor of the famous European city.
