Another senior member of the government is facing questions over his citizenship, but this time Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg is denying that he's a dual citizen of Hungary by descent because of his mother who escaped the Holocaust.  "It is absolutely absurd to think that I could involuntarily acquire Hungarian citizenship by rule of a country that rendered my mother stateless," he said.  Frydenberg is double-checking but maintains he was born in Australia as an Australian to Australians, and has never sought citizenship anywhere else.

Earlier this week, Senate President Stephen Parry quit after revealing that he is a dual-citizen with the UK; he appears to have kept that a secret from most people, but apparently confided in Senate colleague Mitch Fifield more than a fortnight ago.  Last week, the High Court tossed five MPs including then deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce for being dual citizens in violation of Section 44 of the Australian Constitution.  There are growing calls for an extensive audit of Aussie lawmakers to find out who and who does not have dual citizenship status, despite resistance from the coalition and Labor.

A Spanish prosecutor is seeking an arrest warrant for sacked Catalonian leader Carles Puigdemont, who is hiding out in Belgium after the Catalan Independence Debacle he set off.  Authorities remanded eight of Puigdemont's ex-cabinet ministers into custody, and Madrid authorities already took control of most of Catalonia's institutions.  Sources say the arrest warrant for Puigdemont will likely be issued when Friday rolls around the world to Spain.

Scientists say a small population of Orangutans on Sumatra have enough distinct differences from their closest relatives to classify them as a separate species.  Unfortunately, there are only about 800 or so Tapanuli Orangutans left, so they're already considered endangered.  Their skulls have a very slightly but consistently different shape than their Sumatran and Bornean cousins, from whom they separated some 700,000 years ago.  Other than humans, there were only seven other species of Great Apes, therefore this is a big discovery.  Tapanuli Orangutans are fuzzier in the beard, and the males give off a different signature sound as they waltz around the jungle doing Tapanuli Orangutan stuff.

Egypt's backward slide continues, after a court sentenced a TV presenter to three years in jail after she discussed ways of becoming pregnant outside a conventional marriage.  Doaa Salah asked her viewers if they had sex before marriage, and also suggested a woman could marry briefly to have children before divorcing.  Conservatives freaked out, and the authorities ruled she "threatened the fabric of Egyptian life".  Doaa Salah can appeal her three-year sentence.

A UN report says the so-called Islamic State murdered at least 741 civilians during the Battle of Mosul.  This happened through the use of human shields, intentionally shelling homes, and shooting people as they tried to flee the battle zone.  "Those responsible must answer for their heinous crimes," said UN human rights chief Zeid Raad Al Hussein.  The report also urges an investigation to another 461 civilian deaths attributed to Iraqi forces and US-coalition air strikes during the battle, which ran from November 2016 to July 2017.

In America's shooting gallery, a "creepy" failed businessman with a history of running up bad debt and registered Republican is charged with shooting and killing three people at a Walmart discount retail store outside Denver, Colorado.  47-year old pencil-necked white guy Scott Ostrem "nonchalantly" walked into the store and opened fire on Wednesday night, according to witness accounts to police.  Donald Trump didn't say a thing or tweet out anything about these murders, like he did with teh New York City truck attack.
