Iran's president is warning his people that new US economic sanctions will put the economy under "unprecedented" pressure.  President Hassan Rouhani said the new situation is even worse than the country's 1980-88 war with neighbouring Iraq.  "During the war we did not have a problem with our banks, oil sales or imports and exports, and there were only sanctions on arms purchases," Rouhani said in a speech to political activists.  The US has ratcheted up pressure on Iran after claiming it has intelligence that Iran or its proxies were planning to strike at US troops in Syria and Iraq, and is moving military hardware int the area to point at Iran.

Actor and Activist Alyssa Milano is calling for a drastic protest of the state of Georgia's restrictive new anti-abortion law, signed into law by its far-right government last week.  In a modern twist on the ancient Greek drama "Lysistrata" she's calling on women to withhold sex from men until they set things right.  "Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy," she said in a social media post that led to the hashtag #sexstrike trending on twitter.  The Georgia law is one of many being rammed through by far-right Republican majorities in rural states; the so-called "heartbeat" law forbids abortion after a fetal pulse can be detected by what eventually develops into a heart.  At six weeks of fetal development, that's before most women even realize that they are pregnant say critics.
