Turkey says it killed 25 militants in cross border fire on the northern Syrian town of Jarablus - but a monitoring group said at least 35 civilians and four militants were killed in a wave of Turkish strikes in the same area.  This comes on the fifth day of Turkey's deepening involvement in the five and a half year old civil war going on south of its border - what Ankara calls "Operation Euphrates Shield".  Turkey is targeting Islamic State, but also Kurdish militias supported by Turkey's NATO allies.

Militants linked to Islamic State staged a raid on a southern Philippines prison, freeing eight of their fighters.  Another 15 inmates who were being held on murder and drug charges also walked out.  A military source denies the raid, saying that the prisoners were "allowed" to escape, suggesting some sort of inside job.  The Maute militants kidnapped and beheaded and soldier and two foreign workers over the past several months.

A French restaurant known for its fine cuisine is getting bad reviews for rudeness and bigotry.  The owner of Le Cenacle restaurant in Tremblay-en-France near Paris was caught on video arguing with two women, and eventually refusing to serve them because they were Muslim.  The video quickly burned up social media, and now prosecutors are looking into a possible violation of the pair's rights.  On Sunday, chef Jean-Baptiste Debreux stood outside the restaurant, apologizing and claiming stress because he lost a friend in last year's Paris terrorist attacks - which is no excuse.  SMDH.

Singapore has significantly raised the number of cases of locally-transmitted Zika virus infection.  Now, officials say 41 people were made ill.  Most of them are foreign construction workers who have recovered, but seven are still in hospital  On Saturday, Singapore said one woman had caught the virus, and now they're expecting the number of cases to grow.  People who catch the mosquito-born disease can have flu symptoms, temporary paralysis, or no symptoms at all.  The virus is associated with thousands of birth defects in Brazil.

Scottish Police arrested two United Airlines pilots for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol in the cockpit pf the plane as they prepared to fly from Glasgow Airport to New York.  The men, 35 and 45 years old, are believed to be Americans and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.  United says it suspended their flying duties pending an investigation.

Two Southwest Airlines pilots are being credited for a job well done after an explosion tore off part of the right engine on their New Orleans to Orlando flight.  "We heard a loud boom at about 10,000 feet," said passenger Stephanie Miller, "Sounded like an 18 wheeler tire blowing and we started smelling smoke."  She got a photo of the damaged engine after Flight 3472 landed in Pensacola, a little short of its destination.

A construction worker suffered a severe head injury and died on the Dakota Access Pipeline, about 200 miles from where an ever-growing coalition of Environmentalists and Native Americans are blocking further work on the controversial project.  The US government approved the pipeline to run alongside the Standing Rock Sioux reservation despite objections, and cuts across many streams and rivers, including the Missouri twice and Mississippi once.  The indigenous groups say the government improperly fast-tracked the project using a law meant to approved minor projects like boat docks and piers.

Uzbekistan says President Islam Karimov, who has run the country since the fall of the Soviet system in 1991, has been admitted to hospital.  It's an unusual announcement for a country that plays its cards pretty close and tolerates no dissent.  The military has formed a ring around the government hospital where the 78-year old Mr. Karimov is being treated for a rumored stroke. 

Veteran Israeli Labor Party politician Binyamin Ben-Eliezer is dead at the age of 80 years.  Nicknamed "Fuad", Mr. Eliezer was born in Basra, Iraq and was a native Arab speaker, making him an important bridge from Israel to the Arab world. 

A German official not only won't apologize for flipping a middle finger at neo-nazi scum protesters - Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel says, "I made just one mistake, I didn't use both hands."  Malcontent far-right protesters confronted Mr. Gabriel at a rally in the town of Salzgitter earlier this month, complaining about the government's welcoming refugee policy.
