An Aeroflot passenger plane carrying 78 people exploded into flames as it tried to make an emergency landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday, killing at least 13 people including two children.

It has been suggested that the plane was struck by lightning in mid-air, forcing its return.

Australian DJ Adam Neat, who performs under the name Adam Sky, has died in a mishap in Bali.  Mr. Neat apparently had rushed to assist a friend who had fallen off of a balcony at a private villa; but he crashed through a glass window, sustaining mortal wounds and bleeding to death.  JUICE Magazine Asia describes the Singapore-based performer as a "rising Aussie superstar DJ", with three top ten releases.

Cyclone Fani's death toll is at least 33 lives lost after it slammed into India's Odisha state and adding five more deaths after it hooked north to Bangladesh.  Forecasters say the worst of the storm is over; thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei has backed off plans to have gay sex and adultery punishable by stoning to death, extending a moratorium on the death penalty.  This follows global outcry over the news laws, which included boycotts and celebrity protests.  Brunei has not carried out any execution since 1957.

Violence between Gaza militants and Israel has increased - the militants have now launched 600 rockets into Israel, killing at least four people.  Israel responded with precision strikes on 280 targets in Gaza, killing at least 15 people.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday threatened to "continue its massive strikes on terror elements in the Gaza Strip.

Sri Lanka has expelled some 600 foreigners after the Easter Sunday bombings, among them were 200 Islamic Clerics.  Tens of thousands of security personnel will be guarding the nation's schools as children go back to class.  Sri Lanka is still under a state of emergency after the 21 April attacks that killed more than 250 people at Christian churches and international hotels.

A 24-year-old employee of the Serengeti Zoo near Hamburg, Germany is recovering from serious injuries after two lions attacked him.  Officials say his life was not in danger.  "We can say it's a miracle that our young colleague is still alive," said zoo chief Fabrizio Sepe.  The suspect the keeper entered the lion enclosure without ensuring the big giant fanged beasts were secure behind bars - menschliches versagen, or "human error".  "The animals bit him several times," Sepe said. "Two other zoo keepers saved their colleague and fended off the lions."
