Breaking new from the US presidential campaign trail:  FBI Director James Comey says the bureau has NOT changed its conclusions about Hillary Clinton from July, when investigators said she committed no crime in the handling of her emails on a private email server.  This effectively undercuts the basis of fascist demagogue Donald Trump's closing argument in his campaign, although it remains to be seen if this will undo the damage from Comey's untimely leak a week ago that Republicans seized upon.  Bottom line:  Hillary is in the clear.

Another late poll suggests US Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has maintained a modest lead over misogynist arsehole Donald Trump - the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal national poll, 44 percent of likely voters support Mrs. Clinton and 40 percent back the orange clown, with the rest throwing their votes away on third parties that the US electoral process doesn't recognize.  There are signs of concern, as Clinton and her surrogates hit last minute rallies in northern states Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan that were already supposed to have been solidly in her camp.  Likewise, a surge in early voting among Latinos could be a factor in southwestern states that have ignored the rapidly growing demographic.

No, there was no assassination attempt against Trump.  Bodyguards grabbed Trump by the p***y and rushed him offstage at a rally in Reno, after someone yelled, "Gun!".  It turned out there was NO gun, and it was just one protester - a registered Republican - who held a sign that said "Republicans Against Trump".  Trump's arsehole son and campaign started tweeting about an non-exist assassination attempt.  But when Trump's spokeszombie Kellyanne Conway tried to claim it was true, CNN's Jake Tapper laughed in her face on nationwide TV.  Is that enough to sway Trump's voters?  No, they're in it because he's a racist.  The troubling incident also demonstrates the sort of hour-by-hour lies that will seep from a Trump White House if Americans are so stupid as to elect a proven liar and known con-man.

Also in stupid, violent America, a relatively well-off real estate agent is confessing to being a serial killer. This is after investigators found a woman "chained like a dog" and imprisoned in a shipping container on his property in North Carolina.  Authorities say 45-year old Todd Kohlhepp confessed to seven murders.  A body found on his 90-plus acre property has been identified as the boyfriend of the woman in the container; they had gone missing in August.

Schools in India's capital New Delhi are closed for three days as officials seek ways to deal with lingering, choking smog.  This comes as PM2.5 - tiny particles that can clog people's lungs - soared to over 90 times the level considered safe by the World Health Organization (WHO), and 15 times over local standards.  All construction and demolition work has been banned for five days in the city, and water is being sprinkled on main roads to suppress dust.

A spokesman for Germany's Interior Ministry is suggesting that Europe adopt Australia's hard-line policies on turning back refugee boats.  "The elimination of the prospect of reaching the European coast could convince migrants to avoid embarking on the life-threatening and costly journey in the first place," said the unidentified source, as quoted by the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.  Opposition parties quickly condemned the idea as illegal and immoral.  Chancellor Angela Merkel has been under pressure over refugees after Germany welcomed almost 900,000 last year.  But more than 4,220 refugees have died just this year trying to cross the Mediterranean in derelict boats run by human traffickers.

Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega appears to be headed to a third consecutive term as President in this weekend's election, sparking some concerns about dynastic ambitions - not least because his vice presidential running mate is his wife.  But Ortega's closest rival with the conservative opposition party is running at eight percent in opinion polls.  Under Ortega, Nicaragua has slashed poverty by 13 percent and achieved five percent economic growth.
