Good Morning Australia!! - Theresa May survives another day - Trump's lawyer blasts his "dirty deeds" - France hunts the Strasbourg gunman - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

UK Prime Minister Theresa May won the confidence of her governing Tory Party.  Of 317 Conservative MPs casting votes, 200 voted in favor of keeping her on, 117 voted against her.  That's more than a third against her and more than the pundits had predicted.  To get to that point, Ms. May had to promise not to lead her party in the next parliamentary election, and - controversially - allow two MPs who had been suspended in sexting scandals to come in from the cold for just a day and vote for her.  By party rules, there cannot be another no confidence measure on her for another twelve months, and the next election is not until 2022, so she now has a little more political breathing room.  Unless, that is, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn can get enough Tories to cross over and join his party, plus the Greens, the Scottish National Party (SNP), Plaid Cymru, and the Lib-Dems for a Parliamentary no confidence motion.

All of this happened because of widespread dissatisfaction with her Brexit Deal, upon which she cancelled a Parliamentary vote because it was going to go down in flames.  PM May now goes back to visiting European capitals to try and get leaders to change their minds; but one after another they have said that the current agreement is the best and only deal they will offer.

Pope Francis has cut Cardinal George Pell from his "Group of Nine", a panel of councilors that is highly influential in setting Roman Catholic Church policy.  Also leaving the panel are 85-year old Chilean Cardinal Javier Errazuriz, who is accused of covering up for pedophile priests; he denies the charges.  And Congolese Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya recently retired as archbishop of Kinshasa at age 79.  And I can't say anything else about it, so don't ask!

Chile is expelling an Irish pedophile priest, and it is believed that 72-year old Fr. John O'Reilly will head to Mexico if he doesn't file some legal action to challenge the deportation order.  O'Reilly had been a celebrated teacher and was awarded honorary citizenship, but that was revoked after his child molestation conviction and four year prison sentence.  The fact that the Church hasn't defrocked him is taken by critics as proof that the lackadaisical attitude of Cardinal Errazuriz towards pedophilia still pervades the Chilean church.

Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen was sentenced to 36 months in prison for paying hush money to two women who accused Trump of sexual impropriety - "dirty deeds" that he blames on Trump and says were committed in service of him.  "It was my own weakness and a blind loyalty to this man that led me to choose a path of darkness over light," the 52-year-old Cohen told the judge.  Cohen is cooperating with prosecutors investigating Trump's dealings, which is quite a reversal after once claiming he'd "take a bullet" for Trump.

France has identified the gunman who killed three and wounded 13 near the Christmas Market in Strasbourg.  They say 29-year old Cherif Chekatt yelled "Allahu Akbar" as he opened fire.  So far he has eluded capture.  Authorities had Chekatt on their radar because he had embraced a radical form of Islam in prison after being sentenced for crimes including robbery.

Spain's minimum wage will grow by the largest amount in four decades from January 2019, jumping up 22 percent.  Prime Minister said "a rich country cannot have poor workers".

Tanzania is planning to build a dam and hydro-electric power plant on the Rufiji River in the Selous Game Reserve, a Unesco World Heritage site and one of East Africa's best-known game reserves.  Environmentalists are condemning the decision, saying it will: cause greater erosion downstream; possibly dry out lakes that attract wildlife tourism; reduce the fertility of farmland; and cause the retreat of the Rufiji Delta (.pdf link).  The government of President John Magufuli says the project will boost development and double the country's electricity generation capacity.
