The White House and Donald Trump's lawyer spent the day furiously back-pedaling after Trump tweeted his demand to Attorney General Jeff Sessions to shut down the Robert Mueller probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and related corruption.  After Democrats and some Republicans raised questions about impropriety and possible obstruction of justice, the White House and attorney Rudy Giuliani emphatically said Trump was just tweeting his opinion, because he said Sessions "should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now" - "should",  instead of "must".  BTW, the "rigged witch hunt" has netted five guilty pleas out of charges against 32 individuals.  So that's a lot of witches.

At least three people are dead after Zimbabwean troops attacked and opened fire on opposition MDC Alliance protestors who say the counting from this week's presidential election is taking too long.  The protesters accuse the ruling Zanu-PF party of rigging Monday's elections.  Early, unofficial results show the Zanu-PF - the party of former strongman ruler Robert Mugabe and they guy who deposed him Emmerson Mnangagwa - heading for a big majority.  "Soldiers are trained to kill during war.  Are civilians enemies of the state?" asked MDC presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa, "There is no explanation whatsoever for the brutality that we saw today."

The DR Congo is declaring a new Ebola outbreak, just a week after announcing the previous outbreak the killed 33 people was over.  Four people tested positive for Ebola in the eastern part of the country near Uganda, in an area with a strong tradition of cross-border trade which raises the possibility of spreading the virus.  The additional problem is that it is a troubled area where armed groups have killed a thousand people since 2014.  "This is an active conflict zone. The major barrier will be safely accessing the affected population," said Peter Salama of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Police in Sweden are hunting the thieves who stole some of the country's crown jewels from a cathedral on a lake and escaped by speedboat.  The suspects brazenly stole two priceless crowns and an orb belonging to a 17th Century king and queen as the cathedral hosted a luncheon.  "It's 1-0 to them right now," said police spokesperson Thomas Agnevik, "It is not possible to put an economic value on this, it is invaluable items of national interest."

A judge in the UK ordered far right provocateur Tommy Robinson released on bail.  His supporters claimed he was jailed as a political prisoner, but that was not the case:  The former leader of the racist English Defense League is still convicted of contempt of court for filming participants in a rape trial in Leeds last year, which he admitted.  But the appeals judge ruled the case be reheard because there had been technical flaws by the judge who jailed him - especially the part where only five hours elapsed from his arrest to his sentencing at Leeds Crown Court.

All 103 passengers and crew aboard Aeromexico Flight AM2431 survived when the plane crashed shortly after a failed takeoff from Guadalupe Victoria International Airport in Durango.  In fact, even though 97 people were injured, many walked to safety before the Embraer jet caught fire.  The official investigation will take a while, but speculation has centered on a wind shear that forced a wing into the ground, knocking off two engines before it crashed.
