Hello Australia!! - His ex-lawyer says Trump is a "racist", a "liar", and a "cheat" - India and Pakistan are trading shots and taking prisoners - The Vatican is investigating Cardinal Pell - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen described him as a "racist", a "liar", and a "cheat", much to the delight of headline writers around the world because that one pretty much writes itself (see above and practically every other news site in the world).  But seriously folks, Mr. Cohen testified before a US House committee pretty much on his way to prison for lying to federal prosecutors, which he says was on the orders of Trump.  Republicans repeatedly hammered him for being an admitted liar, which he deflected pretty easily by agreeing with them and pointing out that his life was ruined and he's going to the slammer.

In response to questions from majority Democrats, Cohen:  Produced evidence of Trump ordering an illegal payoff; described a mafia-like atmosphere in the Trump organization in which dirty and/or illegal tasks were hinted at rather than explicitly ordered; described how a Russian operative had an office down the hall from Trump, but could not directly corroborate collusion with Russia to swing the 2016 presidential election.  Cohen also said it was "ironic" that Trump is in Vietnam for a summit with North Korea's Kim Jong-un after he was unable to come up with medical documents to prove he had bone spurs, the condition he claimed to get out of the Vietnam War military draft.

Anyway..

Pakistan said it had shot down two Indian military jets and captured at least one pilot, in a major escalation of the tension between the two nuclear powers over the disputed Kashmir territory.  India condemned Pakistan for displaying video of the man on TV, showing him at first bloodied and blindfolded and later cleaned up and drinking tea.  Tensions have been awful for decades, but the current round started at the weekend when Pakistan-based terrorists attacked and killed Indian soldiers, setting off retaliatory strikes.  India accuses Pakistan of harboring terrorists.

At least 25 people were killed and dozens more injured when a train crashed and burned at Cairo, Egypt's main railway station.  Many suffered burns and are in a critical condition.  Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli promised a thorough investigation and punishment for that anyone found to be negligent; Transport Minister Hisham Arafat resigned within hours.  Egyptians have been complaining for years about the poor state of the railways and blame the government for failing to upgrade the system.

Spanish police are not ruling out any motive after attackers entered the North Korean Embassy in Madrid, bound and gagged the staff, and made off with several computers including personal units of embassy staff.  One of the staffers managed to free herself and ran out into the street for help.  Investigators are trying to get an idea of what sort of data was lost with the computers.

France is accusing the Dutch government of acting like an "unfriendly" corporate raider for its unexpected move to purchase a near 13 percent stake in KLM-Air France.  Hey, that's privatization, boys.  The Netherlands said it was prepared to increase its stake to 14 percent to ensure its influence; that's about equal to France's share in the former state carriers, which merged in 2004.

Incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari is the winner of last weekend's election in Nigeria.  Second-place rival Atiku Abubakar claimed it was a "sham election" and will challenge the result in court.

The Vatican has decided to investigate Cardinal George Pell's sex abuses, now that he's already been convicted and faces a jail term.  Pell's case might have been made worse with his attorney Robert Richter describing the criminal sex abuse of two choirboys as "no more than a plain vanilla sexual penetration case".  Vatican spokesman spokesman Alessandro Gisotti said, "After the guilty verdict in the first instance concerning Cardinal Pell, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) will now handle the case following the procedure and within the time established by canonical norm."  Vatican watchers believe it's a sign the Pope is taking an active role in the case, which could lead to Pell being defrocked.
