Hello Australia!! - A horror crash claims "the fastest woman on four wheels" - Boris Johnson is condemned for short-circuiting democracy - Trump orders his minions to break the law - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

The UK's unelected Prime Minister Boris Johnson has managed to shut down the elected Parliament to end democratic debate in the weeks leading up to the Brexit, almost guaranteeing that the UK will crash out of the European Union with no deal with all of its consequences.  Johnson asked Queen Elizabeth for permission to suspend Parliament in the second week of September, just days after MPs go back to work, and it would last until the end of October, when the Brexit is to take place.  Being a constitutional democracy, the Queen had no choice to to grant the request.

And it was met with disgust from pretty much across all points of the UK's political spectrum, with words like "outrageous", "scandalous", and "coup d'etat" frequently used.  House of Commons Speaker John Bercow doesn't usually comment on political matters, but angrily said, "However it is dressed up, it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of (suspending Parliament) now would be to stop (MPs) debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country."  Senior Conservative MP and former chancellor Philip Hammond called it a "constitutional outrage", while Lib Dem MP Chuka Umunna said: "The Prime Minister is behaving like a tin-pot dictator, pure and simple, and the People’s Parliament will not stand for it."

Ruth Davidson reportedly will announce she is stepping down as leader of the Scottish Conservatives on Thursday morning.  Original against the Brexit, she's been horrified at Johnson's willingness to crash the United Kingdom for the sake of the Brexit.  With eight years at Scottish Tory leader, her departure would hurt the Conservatives in Scotland, where her endorsement of a political candidate was considered more important than the main party's back in London.  But the Tories are a minority in Scotland, and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said, "Shutting down parliament in order to force through a no-deal Brexit - which will do untold and lasting damage to the country against the wishes of MPs - is not democracy, it is dictatorship."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn accused Johnson of "doing is a smash and grab on our democracy to force through a no deal".  He said when Commons returns on Tuesday, "The first thing we'll do is attempt legislation to prevent what (the PM) is doing", followed by a vote of no confidence "at some point" - possibly sooner rather than later.

Anyway...

Italy managed to dodge a far-right nationalist government:  The leaders of the center-Left Democratic Party (PD) and populist Five Star Movement (M5S) have agreed to form a coalition, agreeing that M5S's Giuseppe Conte should stay on as prime minister.  The country was nearly thrown into a snap election by former Interior Minister Matteo Salvini of the League Party, who dramatically pulled out of the former coalition with M5S and tried to push a no-confidence measure.

The White House denied reports that Donald Trump had offered to grant presidential pardons to aides who break the law in order to expedite construction of his border wall.  The Washington Post reported that Trump told them, "Don't worry, I'll pardon you," if they break the law following his instructions to seize private land through eminent domain, flout environmental rules, and push through billion-dollar contracts.  Trump has repeatedly promised people at his rallies that 500 miles of wall would be complete before the next election - in reality, not a single mile has actually been completed.

Hurricane Dorian hit the US Virgin Islands, and is passing north of Puerto Rico as a Category One storm.  Of course, the storm surge of one to two meters is the problem for Puerto Rico, which has yet to recover from Hurricane Maria two years ago and the US government's negligence under Donald Trump.  Dorian could strengthen to a Category Three by this weekend when it is expected to slam into Florida.
