Good Morning Australia!! - Investigators now know where a Russian spy and his daughter were likely poisoned - Ecuador cracks down on lousy house guest Julian Assange - A woman is jailed for racism in South Africa - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

Scotland Yard says investigators have determined the location where a Russian former double agent and his daughter were poisoned with a nerve agent.  The Met issued a release reading: "Specialists have identified the highest concentration of the nerve agent, to-date, as being on the front door of the address" where 66-year old Sergei Skripal lived and his 33-year old daughter Yulia was visiting.  Both remain in a critical condition, and the police officer first to assist them when they fell ill at an Italian restaurant in Salisbury suffered life-changing injuries from coming in contact with the poison, which is believed to be made only in Russia.  The Kremlin denies involvement.

On the heels of expelling four Russian diplomats as part of the international response to Russia alleged involvement in the Skripal attack, Poland announced it is purchasing the US-made Patriot missile defence system.  The US$4.75 Billion deal is sure to anger Moscow, which views all NATO build-ups suspiciously and had already positioned nuclear capable missiles in its Kaliningrad territory on Poland's northeastern border.  Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said Poland was "joining an elite group of states which have an efficient weapon that guarantees security".

Guess who's overstaying his welcome?  Ecuador has cut Julian Assange's internet connection from the room where he's been holed up for 2012, apparently not taking a lot of showers.  Assange had questioned accusations of Russia's involvement in the chemical attack on the Skripals in southern England (as if anyone else wanted to do it), and that was a violation of Ecuadoran President Lenin Moreno's admonition not to interfere in the doings of other countries.  Assange sought asylum to avoid being shipped off to Sweden to face sex assault charges; those charges have since been dropped, but Assange believes that if he leaves the US and UK will scoop him up to face repercussions for leaking classified secrets via Wikileaks.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) says "two thorough investigations" concluded there were civilian casualties in an air raid in Iraq last year.  It's believed the Australian air strike killed a newly married husband and wife and injured two very young children last May.  The RAAF F/A-18 Super Hornet targeted a pair of snipers with a GPS-guided bomb in West Mosul.  It happened at the height of the battle to liberate the city from the terrorists of the so-called Islamic State.

China and North Korea went ahead and confirmed the not terribly secret meeting between Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping, releasing images of the two leaders at a soiree at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
People's Daily
The two reportedly discussed nuclear policy, as in "no one in the world wants Kim to have nuclear weapons".  Kim reportedly told Xi he is committed to de-nuclearization.  However, a report in the New York Times says satellite imagery indicates North Korea is about to start up its own nuclear reactor which is capable of producing 20 kilograms of weapons-grade plutonium each year.

Cricket Australia has handed down punishments for the ball-tampering scandal:  Steve Smith and David Warner are banned for twelve months, while Cameron Bancroft is suspended for nine months.  In addition, each must perform 100 hours of voluntary service in community cricket.  As for the future, Warner would not be considered for team leadership positions at all, while Smith and Bancroft would not be considered for leadership positions for a minimum of 12 months after their suspensions.  Coach Darren Lehmann was cleared of any prior knowledge of the plot.

Ireland set a date for the Abortion referendum.  Voters on 25 May will be asked if they want to loosen Europe's most restrictive laws governing women's reproductive rights.

The first funerals for victims of the Winter Cherry Mall fire in Siberia took place in Kemerovo.  Officials say 64 people died including 41 children, but relatives of the missing say the death toll is likely much higher.  State news reported that bad wiring or an electrical short might have started the blaze, but there is sustained public anger over the fact that the mall was lacking working fire alarms and had its fire exits locked.

France gave a hero's funeral for the police officer who was killed after trading himself for hostages in a terrorist siege at a supermarket.  French President Emmanuel Macron also posthumously awarded the Legion of Honor - France's highest award - to Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame.

The leader of France's far right National Front party was booed and forced to leave a funeral march for Mireille Knoll, the 85-year old Holocaust survivor who was stabbed to death in an anti-Semitic hate crime in Paris last week.  Marine Le Pen had the audacity to show up, despite the FN's history of holocaust denial and anti-Semitism under her father's leadership.  Likewise, Jean-luc Melanchon of the hard-Left France Unbowed movement was forced to leave because of some anti-Semitic nonsense going on in his party as well.  Good thing Jeremy Corbyn didn't fly over.

Twitter banned dumbarse Tommy Robinson of the flacid, racist, far-right English Defence Movement.  'About damned time.

A South African court jailed a woman for three years - with one year suspended - for the racist abuse of a police officer.  Vicky Momberg had just been robbed in 2016 when she blasted a police officer with the K-word 48 times, and then proceeded to compare her view of the behavior of black people in Johannesburg where the initial robbery took place and Durban.  Prosecutors call it a "landmark" ruling, as she's the first person to be jailed for racism.  I wonder if Peter Dutton wants to grant her political asylum?  Someone should ask.  Anyway, she's appealing the sentence.
