Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova has been suspended by the International Tennis Federation for two years for failing a drug test at this year’s Australian Open.  Her sample tested positive for "meldonium", which was banned as of January of this year.  The drug is sold only in Russia and the Baltic nations and Sharapova says she used it to treat diabetes and low magnesium.  But she didn't know it was banned because she used it under the name Mildronate, and for that reason she will appeal the suspension.  If the ban is upheld, Sharapova will be out of the Rio Olympics and Wimbledon.

At least 15 people were killed and dozens are wounded in a series of air strikes on rebel-held areas in the Syrian city of Aleppo.  One of the strikes hit or targeted a hospital in the eastern Shaar district, destroying the building and burying dozens of people.  It's not clear which side launched the attack, but the Syrian government has been trying to retake Aleppo from rebels.

Three people are dead and several more are injured in a shooting at Israel's largest indoor market in central Tel Aviv.  The Sarona Market close to Israel's defense ministry and main army headquarters.  Police apprehended two attackers, wounding one of them in the process.  Local media report that the gunmen might have been dressed or disguised as ultra-Orthodox Jews when they opened fire on passersby near the Benedict restaurant and Haarbaa Street.  Tel Aviv district police chief Moshe Edri said there was no prior terror alert before the shooting.

Police in Lahore, Pakistan arrested a woman for burning her 16 year old daughter alive in retaliation for choosing her own husband from another ethnic group.  Police say her own family lured Zeenat Bibi back from her new in-laws with empty promises of safety; they tortured her and the mother, Perveen Bibi doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.  This is Pakistan's third so-called "honor killing" of this nature in as many months. 

Eritrea has extradited to Italy the suspected leader of a major people smuggling operation responsible for sending migrants to their deaths in the Mediterranean Sea.  35-year old Medhanie Yehdego Mered is reportedly known as "the general", and allegedly controls the racket of shipping people from the Horn of Africa to Europe.  Authorities say they intercepted a message in which Mered refers to the sinking of migrant boats as "Allah's will".

On the eve of the Euro 2016 football tournament in Paris, French authorities have released an App to alert geo-located users in the event of a terrorist attack.  It's designed NOT to vibrate or emit any sound in order to ensure that anyone hiding at the site of an attack does not alert the attackers.

Peru's presidential runoff election count is taking a very long time, but with 99.5 percent of vote counted, conservative economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski leads right-wing murderous dictator's daughter Keiko Fujimori 50.12 percent to 49.88 percent.  And yeah, it matters.  Former dictator Alberto Fujimori is serving a life sentence for crimes against humanity - does anyone really think Keiko won't pardon him, or even adopt some of his "methods"?  So, good luck with that, Peru.

A shepherd from outside north-eastern Spanish city of Huesca fell asleep on the job, so the sheep went to town.  Literally, they went to town.  It took police 45 minutes to round them all up and put them back in their pen.  This happened at 4 o'clock in the morning, local time - so it could have actually helped anyone in town who was dealing with insomnia.  Because they could have....
